CHARITY HAS CHANGED!
In order to give a true hand up to students in need, rather than just another hand out, we need to change our approach to charity. Kenya Youth Futures in partnership with One Heart Foundation www.oneheart.foundation are supporting local children by leveraging a social enterprise business structure to provide much needed high school scholarships.
Purpose driven travel, voluntourism, and impact travel are all names for a growing sector within the tourism industry.
Kenya Youth Futures in partnership with One Heart Foundation (www.oneheart.foundation) and the local Kenyan community are making a difference for kids in rural Western Kenya.
This transformational partnership aims to establish mutually beneficial activities in the areas of education, research, community engagement, capacity building, and social inclusion. This project is paying particular attention to informed engagement for the benefit of communities.
If we are to truly break the poverty cycle we need to think smarter, be more entrepreneurial, work more collaboratively. We need to develop sustainable models for community development that will see long-term change in the lives of hundreds of the most vulnerable children that would otherwise go back into the cycle of poverty through lack of education, training and life opportunities.
To see bright Kenyan students raised up to become the leaders of tomorrow we need to adopt a more shared value approach. That’s what the Homestead Retreat Project is all about. We are linking with rural communities to unlock their skills and natural resources to ultimately advantage the children in their communities to have a chance at education.
HOW DOES THAT WORK?
We have completely refurbished the Homestead Retreat using the artistry and skills of local community people and businesses. Local people have to created a wonderful place for you to visit. It is set on 8acres of lush farmland; an ideal place to relax and experience authentic rural Kenyan atmosphere.
When you come and stay you get to see the real Kenya; meet the real people. You will fly in to Eldoret International airport and be whisked away to enjoy a beautiful relaxed rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Sit by the fire at night and learn about the traditions and history of this place.
Plan to stay long enough to really relax. You will be warmly welcomed and well looked after. Want to see more? Nearby there are local markets, villages, schools, churches, places of beauty. After a few good days of rest, you can fly out to a Safari in the famous Masi Mara and Serengeti and see more of the marvels of Kenya.
When you visit and stay with us, just the cost of your stay will provide a scholarship for a local student.
If you want to do more, ask about opportunities for you to contribute your skills through the community skills centre. Be assured that what ever you give in terms of knowledge or skills you will more than receive back in terms of your own learning.
